SUMMER THEATRE

Youth Summer Theater Comes to Windsor

The Youth Summer Theater program is three weeks with a weekend performances for family and friends. Classes are held in Windsor, California where students meet Monday thru Friday and bring a sack lunch for a daily lunch break. There’s a parent information meeting the first week, and a performance on the final Friday and Saturday, followed by a cast party.

The program is for young people in middle school and high school who are interested in developing and improving theatre skills. Students going into 5th grade or younger need to audition. The program stresses the commitment, cooperation and creativity necessary to work in theatre while building self-esteem and self-confidence. The program includes acting, singing, and dance instructions, also costume and set design if time permits, and of course production rehearsals.

We have a talented staff dedicated to children’s theatre. Our artistic and music director is Heather Cullen, vocal and piano teacher and director of the Healdsburg/Windsor Children's Community Choir. Our choreographer is Misty Bastoni who spent her childhood performing and started several dance and drama programs at local schools. This year we are pleased to welcome Caitlin Shindledecker, a recent USF's Performing Arts and Social Justice Program graduate, as our director.

In 2009, the youth theater performed Bugsy Malone Junior, the pie-flinging, pinstripe-wearing, pint-sized classic that was made into a musical from the hit film. This is a fun musical comedy with many parts for boys and girls. There were “splurge” guns, singing, dancing, and opportunities for youths to participate in all aspects of theatre.

The Youth Summer Theater 2010 will perform MTI’s Fiddler on the Roof Junior at the Windsor High School theater on June 25 and 26. Call 836-7551 to order tickets.
